I have employment or volunteer opportunities

“The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity.” ~Leo Tolstoy

One of the things our older kids in the foster care system need most is the chance to build their skills, think like an employable adult, and develop a resume.  A first job could set the tone for a positive future.

My suggestion:

Partner with reputable organizations that support foster youth as they transition from childhood to young adulthood.  This can be everything from being available for moch interviews to alerting these organizations to available positions depending upon which services the programs you connect with provide.  An Oregon example of this type of program is the ILP program one of my kids participates in.

Sadly, our society often sees our children at worst as too scary to give them a chance and at best as less accomplished than their peers.  Let me be the first to say that while their transcripts may reflect the fact that they moved around a lot and their attitude may reflect the fact that they learn to trust slowly,  many of our kids can inspire, work hard and thrive when given the chance to contribute to something greater than themselves.  Thank you for helping to change this societal attitude by opening your business doors!
